About Prereleases

To participate in this event, you will need a Pokemon Player ID number. The easiest way to receive a Player ID (or to look it up if you forgot it) is to download the Play! Pokemon Access mobile app, and create or log in to your pokemon.com account. Once you are logged in, you'll see your Player ID at the top of your screen. For best results, please do this before noon.

Your Prerelease kit contains a pre-built 40-card deck and 4 additional packs of Pitch Black. Using the cards in this box—and only the cards in this box—you will have 30 minutes to construct a 40-card deck which you will then use to play in a 3-round Swiss tournament. You get to keep all of the cards you get and every player goes home with the same prizing at the end, so if this is your first time playing in a Pokemon TCG tournament, don't sweat it! Everyone is on an even playing field, and everyone is just here to have fun with the new cards.

What makes a Prerelease different from a regular tournament?

• Games are played for 4 Prize cards instead of 6.
• The normal deckbuilding limit of 4 cards with the same name doesn't apply. If you pull 15 Charmanders and you want to put them all in your deck, go for it!
• If you need additional Basic Energy cards, we are happy to provide them. Just ask!
• The cards you receive today will not be legal in Standard format until two weeks after the official release date of the set. Cards from Pitch Black will become legal for Standard on July 31, 2026.

Sleeving your deck is not required but highly recommended. Time Travelers has card sleeves, deck boxes, and damage counter dice available for purchase.

Prizing

All players who complete all three rounds will receive three additional Pitch Black packs after the final round.
